I can’t promise you an epic battle like the Katayanagi Twins vs Sex Bob-omb showdown from the 2010 film Scott Pilgrim vs The World. I can promise that this upcoming battle of the bands will be a great way to check out many of the bands that are playing out and about town.
The Phoenix Lounge in Harrisburg is going to be hosting a battle of the bands on May 20-21. Zach Dresch, local comedian/musician/ sometimes Flu Bug will be MCing the event filled with music from local bands. You can expect two days of jokes and music along with the usual amenities that the Phoenix Lounge has offered over the past 25+ years of hosting live music.
The Sioux Empire Battle of the Bands will provide a great outlet for those looking to hear a diverse group of bands from the Sioux Falls area.
For those who enjoy rock music, local bands Jaded Theories and Aladdin Sane should be on your list to check out. Both have a mix of original and cover tunes from all generations of rock music.
Looking for something more alternative? Granite City Howler channels alternative rock in the same vein as Foo Fighters, Mars Volta while local trio Introverse pulls influences from bands like Paramore, Waterparks and PHEM. The Degenerates tag along to play their brand of punk-rock.
Do you prefer your music sludgy shreddy, with melodic vocals and a thunderous rhythm section? Local metal band Zenith is here to deliver all of your metal needs.
Rounding out the roster are Devil on Deck and Aftermath, which should provide a great weekend of music for all of those participating as well as those who are going to support their favorite acts or find some new ones.
Tickets for the event are available at the door, or by reaching out to the local acts that are participating in the event. Fun will be had, but probably not this kind that spawns a giant electric dragon that fights an equally intense electric monkey.
Don’t miss the Battle of the Bands, May 20-21, at Phoenix Lounge in Harrisburg. The show is all ages, but those under 21 must be accompanied by an adult. Tix are $20 at the door or you can buy tickets from participating bands.
