SoDak Music Magazine

Sonja O’Steen, Founder & Editor-in-Chief
Sonja has loved music for as long as she can remember. Growing up in Wisconsin with a mother with an Elvis obsession, she grew up on a combination of gospel and country, learning to play her father’s favorite hymns on the piano. It wasn’t until her tweens, digging through the attic, that she found the real stash: Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix, Zepplin, Bowie, Queen, Floyd, Supertramp, Muddy Waters, The Who, The Animals, Deep Purple, and the list goes on. This is undeniably where her music education began. And she was in love.
As a veteran journalist and best-selling author, Sonja has lived in several states gracing her presence in both the Upper Midwest and along the Midatlantic. She found herself in Sioux Falls after meeting the love of her life in Delaware and being asked to make the journey with him to the “Wild West.”
When not working on the magazine, Sonja hustles around the area as a photographer and occasionally performs stand-up comedy at various open mic nights in Sioux Falls.

Grant Wentzel, Writer/Contributor
An incidental transplant from Columbus, Ohio, Grant is a Sioux Falls writer and blogger, and a big fan of local music. Grant recently published the chapter “Divorce Capital, USA” in the book City of Hustle: A Sioux Falls Anthology available now from Belt Publishing.
He can be found all over the region performing music as Link West, and was recently awarded a Touring Arts Grant from the South Dakota Arts Council to bring his music to non-profits across the state. Between gigs, he publishes his thoughts at ouchthatshot.com.

Thomas O’Steen, Multimedia Producer
As a Delaware native, Thomas can tell you that, yes, Delaware does exist and it’s a lovely place. Waaaaay better beaches than New Jersey (but don’t tell anyone).
Thomas caught the A/V bug quite early in life. Creating many a masterpiece in high school with his best friend, one that even got him elected class president, he loves spinning a good yarn. Watch for him around the area capturing video of your favorite local bands.
